About Image Compressor
A free image compressor that runs entirely in your browser.
Image Compressor is a free online tool for making image files smaller. It compresses JPEG, PNG, WebP, and AVIF, converts between formats, resizes, and can hit an exact file size. The catch is that there is no catch. It is free, there is nothing to sign up for, and your images never get uploaded anywhere.
Why it exists
Most image tools online follow the same pattern. You upload your photos to someone else's server, wait, then download the result. That is slow, it puts your private pictures on a machine you do not control, and it usually comes with limits on how many files you can do or how big they can be. We thought that was backwards. Browsers are powerful enough to do the whole job on their own now, so that is exactly what this tool does.
How it works
When you drop an image in, your browser decodes it, resizes it if you asked, and re-encodes it using the same WebAssembly codecs that power professional tools: MozJPEG for JPEG, OxiPNG for PNG, and the reference encoders for WebP and AVIF. All of that happens on your device. Nothing travels over the network, which is why the tool stays fast no matter how many images you throw at it.
Free, and staying that way
There is no account, no subscription, and no watermark. You do not hand over an email to use it. Open the page, drop in your images, and download the smaller versions.
